It has been several weeks since the last competitive race for the Clarkson University Alpine Ski team, but the squad is well rested and prepared to take a shot at the podium at the USCSA National Championships by the end of the week out at Mt. Bachelor in Bend, Oregon.

The four scoring races begin on Tuesday as the Knights will compete with the rest of the field in the women's giant slalom. The men's giant slalom takes place on Wednesday, the women's slalom on Thursday, and Friday sees the men's slalom. Saturday has a non-scoring event to round out the festivities.

History: Last year, the Golden Knights' women were not in the scoring teams due to many DNFs, but the men were on the podium twice, coming in third in the giant slalom and third in the slalom. Back in 2023, both teams were in the top 10, the men taking ninth and the women a spot lower. And 2022 saw each team at the nationals as well, the Clarkson men coming in fourth in the giant slalom and sixth in the slalom and the women finishing 16th in both events.

The Women: The Golden Knights were hampered by slips and falls this winter, but if all five can keep their skis Clarkson has an excellent shot at challenging for podium spots all week. Hannah Goetz was the top skier for the Knights in 2025, and she was sorely missed at the USCSA Nationals (due to various injuries) a year ago when the Golden Knights failed to score as a team. This year she took seventh in the giant slalom and 11th in the slalom at the USCSA Eastern Regionals, both the top positions for the Knights. Elyse Donaghue ended up 18th in the slalom at the abbreviated 2023 USCSA Nationals and was in the top 20 in both events at this year's USCSA Eastern Regionals. Ariana Welter was outstanding for the Knights in the four races where she maintained her footing, including three top-15 finishes during the regular season. Both Kylie Brino and Kyla Butler were in the top half of the slalom at the nationals a year ago, with Brino coming in 51st and Butler 63rd.

The Men: Freshman Edouard Brochu won his final race of the season, the slalom at the USCSA Eastern Regionals when the event was limited to just one run, and he was also seventh in the giant slalom that same weekend, heading in the USCSA Nationals as an individual contender for a podium spot. That will likely be the case for Jackson Knobloch, Reed Martin, and Josh Jusiak, as each performed well at the USCSA Eastern Regionals. Knobloch was 26th in the giant slalom and 15th in the slalom, but more impressively he took 15th at the USCSA Nationals a year ago thanks to a pair of top 30 finishes. Reed Martin wasn't far behind, coming in 17th overall with two top-25 finishes at the nationals. His best finish of the regional weekend came in the giant slalom, where he took 11th. Jusiak was in the top 10 in the giant slalom at the USCSA Eastern Regionals a few weeks ago and took 81st at the nationals a year ago, though that was due to a DNF in the giant slalom since he took 40th in the slalom. The fifth spot for the team will be filled by two different skiers. Aristotle Ninos finished 25th out of 76 skiers in the slalom at the USCSA Eastern Regionals, while Marino was 13th out of 78 in the giant slalom on the same weekend. Marino was in the top five of Clarkson's skiers in four of the five regular-season giant slalom races.
