Knobloch and Goetz Highlight Slalom Runs in Massachusetts

Charlemont, MA – A few of the top skiers for the Clarkson University Alpine Ski team slipped on the slopes Saturday, but several still stood out on day one of the UMass Carnival, held at Berkshire East Mountain Resort.

The Golden Knights' women finished fourth out of seven teams in the penultimate MacConnell Division race, while the Clarkson men took fifth out of seven teams. Clarkson has one more regular season race, another slalom event in Massachusetts on Sunday.

Clarkson's women had their collective eyes on a higher finish after the first run, but both Elyse Donaghue (21st) and Ariana Welter (36th) did not finish their second trips down the hill. That left the scoring up to Hannah Goetz, Kyla Butler, and Kylie Brino. Goetz finished in 17th place overall out of 81 skiers, closing out her two trips down the hill in 1:38.19. Butler ended up taking 43rd with a time of 1:50.83 and Brino was 47th in 1:52.69.

The men had a few team scorers also come up short in the first run, but the rest of Clarkson's skiers kept their feet for both runs. Jackson Knobloch was the high finisher for the day, coming in 13th out of 77 skiers in 1:35.35. Josh Jusiak placed 21st in 1:36.48 and then Colin Cotter took 27th with a time of 1:38.88 to finish off the Golden Knights' team score. Zach Zientko placed 29th overall in 1:39.41, Aristotle Ninos was 31st in 1:40.54, Pedro Gonzalez jumped to 33rd in 1:42.19, Eve Phelps came in 39th with a time of 1:44.37, and Adin Freeman took 41st in 1:45.76. Edouard Brochu, Reed Martin, Braden Kruk, and Noah Marino each did not finish their first runs.
