Brochu Wins Abbreviated Slalom at USCSA Eastern Regionals

Carrabassett Valley, ME – Limited to just a single run due to weather concerns, the USCSA Eastern Regionals ended early but it allowed Edouard Brochu to make the most of his one run as he led the field in the slalom to bolster the finish of the Clarkson University Alpine Ski team on Sunday afternoon at Sugarloaf Mountain.

Both the men and women qualified for the USCSA National Championships to be held in mid-March out in Oregon. Clarkson's men placed third out of 18 scoring teams on the second day of the USCSA Eastern Regionals, while the Golden Knights' women finished seventh out of 18 scoring teams.

Brochu finished first among 76 skiers, closing out his lone trip down the hill in 30.79 seconds, just topping the second-place finisher by .04 of a second. The rest of Clarkson's skiers were in the top third of participants for the second straight day, assuring a high finish in the team scores. Jackson Knobloch was 15th in 32.20 and Josh Jusiak ended up in 19th in 32.62 to round out Clarkson's team time. Reed Martin was three spots lower than Jusiak in 22nd with a time of 32.89, and Aristotle Ninos was three more spots down the list in 25th with a time of 33.52.

Hannah Goetz just missed out on her second straight top 10 finish, taking 11th out of 72 skiers in the slalom, closing out her lone run in 36.57 seconds. Elyse Donaghue ended up in the top 20 at 19th with a time of 37.12 as Clarkson's second skier, and Kylie Brino was 42nd in 41.01. Kyla Butler was one spot below Brino in 41.10, good enough for 43rd. Ariana Welter did not finish.
