Goetz and Brochu Each Finish 7th at USCSA Eastern Regionals

Carrabassett Valley, ME – In the midst of some troublesome weather heading in, the Clarkson University Alpine Ski team and the rest of the teams in the Northeast competed at the USCSA Eastern Regionals, held at Sugarloaf Mountain.

The Golden Knights' men placed fourth in the giant slalom on Saturday while the Clarkson women ended up in sixth place. The teams will attempt the slalom run on Sunday.

Clarkson's women were somewhat shorthanded on the score sheet as two skiers could not keep their skis with DNF on the card. However, junior Hannah Goetz performed well to place seventh among 80 competitors with a two-run time of 1:29.35. Classmate Elyse Donaghue was slightly under three seconds behind Goetz in 1:32.31, which was good enough for 14th in the field, while Kylie Brino just missed out on the top half by taking 41st in 1:40.87. Both Ariana Welter and Kyla Butler did not finish.

On the men's side, each of Clarkson's entrants finished in the top third of the field of 78 skiers. Edouard Brochu matched Goetz's showing by taking seventh in the field in 1:24.73. Josh Jusiak nearly matched his teammate's time with a 1:24.87, which was good enough for ninth overall. Reed Martin closed out Clarkson's team time and was barely edged out of the top 10 himself, taking 11th with a time of 1:25.21. Had any of the top three for the Knights faltered, Clarkson was still in a good spot as Noah Marino came in 13th place in 1:25.36, while Jackson Knobloch ended up in 26th in 1:26.65.
