Brochu Top Performer for Clarkson on Day One of Babson Carnival

Andover, NH – Freshman Edouard Brochu finished 12th in the slalom to serve as the top performer for the Clarkson University Alpine Ski team as the Golden Knights competed in the Babson Carnival on Friday at Proctor Ski Area.

The Golden Knights' men finished third out of eight teams while the Clarkson women were smack in the middle for fourth place out of seven teams.

Brochu was just outside the top 10 in his first run but slipped somewhat in the second, ending up in 12th overall among 100 competitors with a time of 1:32.57. Jackson Knobloch just missed the top 25, placing 26th in 1:34.59, and then numerous skiers finished in the 30s. Josh Jusiak was 33rd in 1:37.32, Reed Martin tied for 35th in 1:38.53, Zach Zientko came in 37th in 1:38.91, and Aristotle Ninos placed 39th with a time of 1:39.16. Just outside the top 40 was freshman Colin Cotter, who too 43rd in 1:40.74, and placing right at the halfway point was Evan Phelps, coming in 50th in 1:44.70.

On the women's side, Hannah Goetz had the fastest first run for the Knights, but Ariana Welter's second run was enough to jump up to Clarkson's top time. Welter finished in 36th in 1:35.81, narrowly edging out Goetz's time of 1:36.27, which was good enough for 39th in the field of 92 skiers. Kyla Butler and Kylie Brino were likewise separated by less than a second further down the list. Butler ended up in 60th in 1:50.25 to close out Clarkson's team time, while Brino was 62nd in 1:51.10.

Elyse Donaghue did not finish for the Knights on the women's side, while Adin Freeman, Pedro Gonzalez, Braden Kruk, and Noah Marino did not finish for Clarkson's men.
