Welter and Brochu at the Top of the CU Alpine Standings for Second Day In a Row

Ludlow, VT – Transfer Ariana Welter had the best performance of the day for the Clarkson University Alpine Ski team on Monday, as the Golden Knights closed out their first FIS race of the year on Monday at Okemo Mountain Resort.

The Golden Knights' men climbed up to second place among the eight MacConnell Division teams, trailing only Babson, while Clarkson's women ended up third for the second straight day out of the seven full squads.

Welter was in the top 10 of all participants in both runs of the giant slalom, ending up in sixth place overall among 69 skiers with a time of 2:35.21. Hannah Goetz was next for the Knights taking 17th place about five seconds behind Welter with a combined run time of 2:40.13. Kyla Butler ended up in 31st in 2:55.75 to put the Knights solidly in third, while Kylie Brino was 37th in 1:29.49. For the second straight day, Elyse Donaghue did not finish.   

On the men's side, only .01 seconds separated Josh Jusiak and Edouard Brochu in the first run, but the freshman had a slightly quicker second run to end up as the top skier for the Knights on Monday, finishing in 12th place among 76 skiers in 2:28.29. Jusiak ended up in 13th in 2:28.70 despite being in the top 12 for both runs. Jackson Knobloch then finished off the Clarkson top three for scoring purposes, coming in 14th in 2:30.19, well ahead of the third place team.

Plenty of other Clarkson skiers were in the top half of the field. Noah Marino was in 26th at the halfway point and then took 16th place in his second run to place 17th overall in 2:31.68. Pedro Gonzalez ended up in 23rd with a time of 2:33.15 and two more skiers also place in the top 30 for the Knights. Colin Cotter came in 27th (2:34.32) and Zach Zientko took 28th (2:35.20). Three more skiers were in the mid-30s for placements in the field, led by Reed Martin in 33rd (2:37.24). Aristotle Ninos took 34th (2:37.48) and Adin Freeman was 36th (2:40.23). Evan Phelps was 45th after the first run but could not complete his second trip down the hill, while Braden Kruk slipped in his first run and did not finish.
