Brochu and Welter Shine in Clarkson Ski Debuts

Ludlow, VT – Freshman Edouard Brochu and junior transfer Ariana Welter enjoyed standout performances in their first races for the Clarkson University Alpine Ski team as the Golden Knights opened up the 2025 season on Sunday at Okemo Mountain Resort.

The Golden Knights men finished third out of eight MacConnell Division teams and Clarkson's women also placed third among seven MacConnell Division teams.

Brochu had the best run of the day, sitting in sixth place after his opening rush in the slalom, and he finished 14th among 86 skiers with a time of 1:32.93. Jackson Knobloch also had a top-10 run, taking the 10th spot in the second run for a total time of 1:34.38, good enough for 22nd in the overall standings for the day. Reed Martin closed out Clarkson's top three scorers with a time of 1:37.60, taking 29th.

Any Clarkson skier that finished the course was in the top half of the standings. Pedro Gonzalez came in 30th (1:37.81), Zach Zientko was 32nd (1:38.10), Josh Jusiak took 35th (1:38.18), Aristotle Ninos placed 36th (1:40.00), and Colin Cotter finished 40th (1:42.15). Braden Kruk, Adin Freeman, Evan Phelps, and Noah Marino did not finish.

Welter was in the top 20 in both runs among the 74 participants in the women's race, ending up in 13th overall with a two-run time of 1:39.60 to pace Clarkson's women. Not too far behind was Hannah Goetz, who placed 16th in 1:41.07, and Kyla Butler rounded out the Golden Knights scoring time by taking 35th in 1:51.17. Regardless if Butler finished or not, Clarkson still would have taken third as Kylie Brino came in 36th in 1:54.25. Elyse Donaghue did not finish.
