Rouhana and Francis Lead Charge for Knights in 15K Classic at USCSA Nationals

Bend, OR - Junior Joey Rouhana and sophomore Skylar Francis turned in the top performances for the Clarkson University Nordic Ski team, as the Golden Knights and the rest of the field competed in the longest event of the USCSA National Championships, the 15K Classic, on Friday at the Mt. Bachelor Nordic Center.

The Golden Knights' men finished in eighth place with a total of 81 points, 17 points behind seventh-place Wisconsin and 48 points ahead of ninth-place Whitman. Clarkson's women were just a few points shy of jumping a couple of spots as the trio ended up with 133 points, only two behind USMA and three short of McGill's total.

Joey Rouhana had the top finish of the day for the Knights, closing out the grueling 15K race in 54 minutes, 20.7 seconds, good enough for 21st place in the field of 81 skiers. Matthew Clarner was a little over a minute behind Rouhana in 55:31.6, taking the 26th spot in the field. Clarkson had two skiers in the middle of the pack and regardless if one had faltered, the Knights would have had the same finish, as Silas Bartol was 42nd in 58:40.6 to close out the Clarkson's team scoring, while Finn Payne took 43rd in 58:56.7. Ninety seconds later, Adam Jansen crossed the finish line to take 47th in 1:00:30.9, and Torsten Brickley ended his time about 40 seconds after Jansen in 1:01:19.3, good enough for 53rd.

On the women's side, Skylar Francis was just short of the top 30, placing 33rd overall out of 59 competitors with a time of 1:09:49.5. Raegan Joly closed out the event in 1:39:46.4 for 56th place and Clare Janas came in 57th in 1:41:07.0.

Clarkson will finish off the USCSA National Championships on Saturday when it and the rest of the teams compete in the Team Sprint Relays.
