Knights Begin First Day of USCSA Nationals in Oregon

Bend, O.R.- The 7.5km Skate was on store for the day as the Clarkson University Nordic Skiing teams opened up the 2025 USCSA National Championships, Tuesday, out on the west coast. 

The men would finish in 6th place overall, out of 18 schools competing with a score of 45 and a total scoring time of 55:47. The University of Wyoming (18), St. Olaf College (25) and Colorado Mesa University (27) made up the top-three through the first day's event.

Matthew Clarner posted a team-best finish of seventh place, out of 81 total skiers, with a 18:01.1 time, a little over 30 seconds behind the first place finish of Iver Skaarseth from Colorado Mesa. Paavo Rova of St. Olaf and Diego Lobatos of the University of Wyoming made up the rest of the top-3 finishers. Next to cross the finish line for Clarkson was Joey Rouhana at 18:25.2 in 11th place, just seven seconds outside of the top-10. Finn Payne wrapped up the team scoring in the 28th spot with a 19:21.1 timestamp. 

Further down the leaderboard, Torsten Brickley and Adam Jansen finished just three seconds apart in 33rd and 34th respectively, with Brickley crossing at 19:31.8 and Jansen at 19:34.1. Silas Bartol was the final Golden Knight to finish, with a 21:21.4 time, good for 60th place. 

The women would post a 14th place finish overall, out of 16 schools competing with a total of 127 points. St. Olaf College (6), Paul Smith's College (30) and the University of Wyoming (30) made up the top-three for overall team scores on day one. 

Skylar Francis would lead Clarkson through the event, finishing 31st out of 57 skiers, with a 24:39.2 time. Raegan Joly and Clare Janas completed the team scoring with finishes in 53rd and 54th, at 33:15.5 and 35:21.6, respectively. St. Olaf would sweep the top-3 on the women's side, having seven skiers finish in the top-12 of the field. 

Next up on day two of nationals, is the Individual Sprint Classic. Start time is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. PST.
