Paul Smiths, N.Y.- Matthew Clarner, Finn Payne and Joey Rouhana combined to lead the Clarkson "A" team to a first place finish as the Clarkson University Nordic Skiing team wrapped up day two of ECSC Divisional competition, Sunday afternoon.
The trio, fresh off a first place finish two weeks ago at the Middlebury Invitational, skied to a 29:38.25 time, good for first place overall out of 21 teams. Clarner, Payne and Rouhana were the only team to record a sub-30 minute time with the University of Vermont "A" team and the Paul Smith's College "A" team finishing in second and third at 30:13.53 and 30:20.86, respectively. The Clarkson "B" team of Torsten Brickley, Silas Bartol and Adam Jansen managed a top-10 finish of their own with a 32:45.62, placing them in seventh place overall.
Andrew Kanclerz, Oliver Dolcino and Patrick Murray (35:25.87) rounded out the finishes for the Golden Knights as the Clarkson "C" team in 13th.
For the women, Skylar Francis and Clare Janas would team up with Katarzyna Wisnauckas of Smith College. They would finish at 49:01.91, in 16th place out of 23 teams. The University of Vermont "A" and "C" teams would take first and second overall on the day, with the McGill University "A" team rounding out the podium finishes in third place.
The teams return to action next weekend, February 15 and 16th, traveling to Holderness, New Hampshire for ECSC Regionals, hosted by the Holderness School.
