Jackson, N.H- An impressive display in the opening race of the year saw three Golden Knights cross the finish line first, second and third, as the Clarkson University Nordic Ski team picked up a first place finish out of four teams on day one of the White Mountain Classic and Jackson Jaunt on Saturday.
The Golden Knights scored a race-low six points, with Paul Smith's (17), McGill (35) and the US Military Academy (70) rounding out the field of competition. The event will conclude on Sunday after the last round of races.
Matthew Clarner showcased a hot start to his collegiate skiing career posting a race-best time of 39:30.9, as the only skier to post a sub-40 minute time. Finn Payne was next to cross the line with a 40:15.6 time in his first collegiate event as well, while Joey Rouhana rounded out the top three with a 40:48.5.
Torsten Brickley posted a 42:44.7 good for fifth place in the event, while further down the leader board Silas Bartol (43:48.6), Oliver Dolcino (45:23.6) and Adam Jansen (46:49.8) finished 11th, 12th and 13th, respectively. Rounding out the racing results for Clarkson were Andrew Kanclerz (51:06.4) in 17th and Patrick Murray (57:08.2) in 22nd.
On the women's side, Clarkson would finish fourth of four teams (41), behind McGill (9), UMF (25) and Smith (32). Skylar Francis would post an impressive time of 54:10.1, good for a second-place finish. Raegan Joly placed 14th with a 1:04:53 timestamp while Clare Janas would round out the scoring for the Golden Knights in 22nd, posting a 1:37:03.
