In six of the last eight years, the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team has reached the postseason, a run that the Golden Knights look to continue in 2019 when the Green and Gold embark on the new season, which begins with a non-league contest versus SUNY Canton on Thursday at Hantz Turf Field.

2018 Statistics

Last year: Clarkson was 6-9 in 15 games in 2018, a record that easily could have switched with a little luck in close games. The Golden Knights won two games by a single goal in the first weeks of the season, but lost five games down the stretch decided by two goals or fewer, including a pair of league contests. The Knights were still able to squeeze into the conference tournament, but those two games kept Clarkson on the road during the league playoffs. The Green and Gold graduated their fourth (Sam Groves) and fifth (Mark Uhlig) leading scorers as well as all-league defender Michael Nourse, but the most significant loss might be two-time all-star Ryan Gabriel, who transferred to focus on his studies.

Returning Veterans: More than 25 players return to the roster, including a pair of conference all-stars in Conor Bartlett and Liam St. Croix. Bartlett was an instrumental part of the team's offense, accounting for 30 goals and 23 assists for 53 points, having a hand in 38.4% of the scoring for Clarkson, the highest percentage of any player in the Liberty League. St. Croix is the fourth member of his family to play for Clarkson in the 2010s and the bloodlines have served the Knights well as he has earned Liberty League All-Star notice twice in his career already.

In addition to Bartlett and St. Croix, several other standouts are back for the Golden Knights this year. Senior Shane Kilday ranked second on the team in points (32) and goals (23) and classmate Marcus Lavarnway chipped in 18 points to rank sixth for the squad. Pierce Currie (24 points, third on the team), Evan Burgett (14 points, seventh) and Tanner Cioffi (13 points, eighth) also finished in double figures on offense for the Knights.

Joining St. Croix on defense is a seasoned group of returners, including senior Thomas Stanton and junior Trevor Borchardt. Derek White, Andrew Schroeder and Derek Beatty also saw consistent playing time last year and will add to the strong defensive core for the Knights. Sophomore goalkeeper Kevin Dyckman played about a third of the season in the crease for Clarkson and posted a .500 save percentage with a 10.41 goals against average.

Newcomers: The Golden Knights have 22 freshman and one transfer joining the squad in 2019, and the coaching staff is excited for the next generation of Clarkson players. KJ Sarni will likely start for the Knights and add to the team's offensive attack, while Billy Bergan, Will Britton, Max Hoffer, Bryan Penney, and Andrew
Paganelli will also contribute to the team's success as midfielders.
