Rarihwenote Maracle, an incoming freshman for the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team, has been picked to participate for Team Haudenosaunee in the upcoming U20 World Games at Jeju Island in South Korea from August 15-24.

Maracle, who will major in Construction Engineering and Management at Clarkson beginning this fall, will serve as a long stick defenseman wearing jersey #88 in the tournament for the Nationals. He was one of 22 players chosen for Team Haudenosaunee (pronounced ho-dee-no-show-nee), a selection process which began with multiple rounds of tryouts starting in August 2024, continuing over the December holidays, and concluding in the spring of 2025. Maracle is a Mohawk from the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, located north of Lake Ontario, and had to travel to New York's Southern Tier (Salamanca, NY) for the tryouts.

"I'm excited to be going to play the game that I love that connects me with my culture out in another part of the world," Maracle stated. "It's a true privilege to represent my people internationally, and it's an honor to be given that responsibility. I'm also hoping that this instills and continues to show that we as Haudenosaunee are a sovereign nation that deserves to be recognized on the world stage, and hopefully give us a chance to compete at the Olympic level."

The Haudenosaunee is making its ninth appearance at the World Lacrosse Men's U20 Championship, a tournament that takes place every four years. The team, which represents numerous First Nations members ranging from Division I players to rising collegians like Maracle, has collected the bronze medal four straight times behind similar powerhouses like the United States and Canada. Team Haudenosaunee's defense includes Maracle as well as experienced collegiate players like Logan Lee, who has won a pair of Division III National Championships at Tufts University in the last two years.

Team Haudenosaunee finished third at the last U20 Championships in 2022 and has been placed in the packed Pool A, joining Australia, Canada, and the United States. There are five pools overall vying for playoff spots. The Nationals first game is slated for Saturday, August 16th against Australia and the metal games are set for Sunday, August 24th.
