Clarkson Suffers League Loss to St. Lawrence

The Clarkson University Lacrosse team could not recover from a slow start on Wednesday afternoon as St. Lawrence University gained a 13-7 win on the road in Liberty League action at Hantz Turf Field.

St. Lawrence (7-3, 3-1) scored the game's first three goals and raced out to a 5-1 first-quarter lead. The Saints, who won their second straight, built their margin to 8-1 after the opening 30 minutes. Clarkson cut into the deficit to start the second half and outscored St. Lawrence 3-2 in the third quarter to make it a 10-4 game through 45 minutes. Both teams added three goals apiece in the fourth frame.

Freshman Ryan St. Croix (Camillus, NY) led the Golden Knights with four goals and five points. Junior Robert Linder (Marcellus, NY) and freshman Ryan DaRin (Manlius, NY) added a goal and an assist apiece for the Green and Gold. Junior Jack Dowst (Weare, NH) rounded out the Clarkson goal scorers with one tally.

St. Lawrence outshot the Knights 33-26, controlled ground balls 31-22, and held the edge in faceoffs, winning 13-of-24 at the X.

Conor Healey recorded a game-high five goals and six assists to lead the Saints. Tommy Hovey added three goals and an assist to help lead the visitors.

Junior Harrison Washuta (Maple Grove, MN) started in the Clarkson goal and made four saves on 11 shots through 17 minutes. Sophomore Nick Strandholm (Happy Valley, OR) played the final 43 minutes in the Knights' net and finished with eight stops on 14 shots.

Nick Ford posted six saves for St. Lawrence.

Junior Dylan Broomfield (Clinton, NY) picked up a game-high five ground balls and recorded 11 faceoff wins. Senior defenseman Rick Clement (Cotuit, MA) caused four turnovers.

Clarkson, will look to snap a two game losing skid when it plays at Skidmore in Liberty League action on Saturday beginning at 2:00 p.m. The Knights stand at 5-5 overall and 0-4 in the conference.
