The Clarkson University Lacrosse team ran into a red-hot St. Lawrence University squad on Wednesday afternoon and fell to the Saints 10-3 in Liberty League action at North Country Field in Canton, NY.

The Golden Knights, who saw their three-game win streak come to a close, stand at 7-4 overall and 2-2 in the Liberty League. The Green and Gold resume action on Sunday when they host Skidmore College in conference action at Hantz Turf Field, beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Clarkson trailed from the start against St. Lawrence (8-3, 4-0) and found itself in a 7-1 hole at the half. The Saints took a 2-0 lead eight minutes into the game, but the Knights got on the scoreboard with 2:54 left in the first quarter on freshman Austin Case’s (Vestal, NY) first collegiate goal. St. Lawrence answered back just 25 seconds later to hold a 3-1 lead after the opening 15 minutes.

The Saints, who won their sixth straight, took control in the second quarter with four unanswered scores for a commanding six-goal lead at the break. The home team added two more goals in the third quarter for a 9-1 lead through 45 minutes.

Sophomores Mark Nortz (Lowville, NY) and Corey Herrington (Camillus, NY) tallied goals to start the final quarter, but St. Lawrence put its 10th goal on the scoreboard with 3:33 remaining to take any hope of a comeback away from the Knights.

The Saints out shot Clarkson 42-17 and controlled ground balls, 31-17. Senior Ryan Cole (Orchard Park, NY) made 11 saves. Sophomore Dylan Broomfield (Clinton, NY) and junior Rick Clement (Cotuit, MA) both picked up three ground balls.

St. Lawrence’s Jeremy Vautour led all scorers with three goals.
