Winter seems mostly over in New York, so games will become frequent for the Clarkson University Baseball team as the Golden Knights open up Liberty League play this weekend with a three-game set at University of Rochester.

The Series: Since the two teams split doubleheaders in the 2021 season and then met again in the Liberty League playoffs, Rochester has won all 10 meetings from 2022-2024. Last year all three games were decided by three runs or less as the Yellowjackets won 2-0, 5-2, and 9-6.

Key Stats for Clarkson (6-3): Though several hitters are off to solid starts for the Golden Knights, it is easy to see how Cam Jerrett has separated himself from those off to solid starts and torrid starts. Jerrett is hitting .679/.763/.964 in 11 games, having gone 19-for-28 at the plate and accounting for 10 runs scored and 11 more driven in. The middle of the lineup has hit well overall, as Christopher Griggs is batting .450/.520/.700 and James Mason is at .385/.467/.500. Hitting one spot ahead of Cam Jerrett, Joe Figliolino has scored a team-best 13 runs but also accounted for 10 RBI and seven extra-base hits with a .375/.462/.781 slash line.

Key Stats for Rochester (5-6): The Yellowjackets have won four straight as the offense has found a bit of a groove. The team's leading qualifying hitter is Josh Leadem at .317/.444/.585 and he has also contributed three home runs with 14 runs scored and 11 more driven in. Alexander Gonzalo is also at .289/.462/.605 with a team-best 15 RBI thanks to three homers. Although those slash lines are somewhat modest in the early going, several others who don't hit the minimum plate appearances have been mashing as well. Colby Cruser is hitting .643 (9-for-14) in seven games and Jackson Reed is at .440 (11-for-25 in only five games. Luke Gregory is also 6-for-12 (.500) in five games, giving the Rochester lineup plenty of depth.
