It may still be early April, but this weekend the Clarkson University Baseball team will take on University of Rochester in what may very well be a key conference series in regards to positioning for the Liberty League Crossover weekend in May.

The Series: The two teams have met in each of the last three Liberty League Tournaments, with the Yellowjackets eliminating the Golden Knights each time, including the 2019 Liberty League Championship game. Rochester won all four games against the Golden Knights last season, and the two teams met five times in 2021, with Clarkson winning twice.

Key Stats for Clarkson (5-11, 4-1 Liberty League): The Golden Knights swept their three-game series and split against RIT on Monday to get to 4-1 in conference games. Grad student Caleb Doyle leads the team in hitting with a .356 average and also has a .472 on-base percentage. Since mid-April 2021, Doyle has reached base in 55 of the last 57 games in which he has appeared, with one of those games coming at the end of 2022 against Rochester. Clarkson has scored 59 runs in its last nine games against the Yellowjackets, but Rochester's potent offense has produced 105 runs versus the Knights in that same stretch.

Key Stats for Rochester (12-8, 4-2 Liberty League): The Yellowjackets have swiped 41 bases in 50 tries this year, with Josh Leadem leading the team with 16 stolen bases thanks to his .477 on-base percentage. Last year, Rochester slugged 36 home runs in 44 games (0.82 per game), compared to 12 in 20 contests in 2023 (0.60 per game). Four regulars are hitting .320 or better, including Jackson Reed, who has scored 26 times and driven in 24 runs. Rochester's pitching staff has allowed 92 walks in 172.1 innings, but the group has also struck out 157. Nolan Sparks is 3-0 on the mound with 31 strikeouts in 25.2 innings and a 2.81 earned run average.
