Box Score
Davenport, FL – A day after the pitching staff was a bit bruised in defeat, the Clarkson University Baseball team came back to allow just four runs over nine innings, but the Golden Knights still came up short in a 4-3 defeat to Stevenson University to close out their 2022 Florida excursion.

The Golden Knights fell to 2-6 through their first eight contests of the season, while Stevenson moved to 5-14-1 at the halfway point of their campaign.

BOX SCORE

Clarkson got off to a strong start in the bottom of the first as Caleb Doyle led off the game for the Knights with a home run, his second of the year. That was all Clarkson would get until the seventh, however, and the Mustangs posted a few runs in the middle innings.

In the top of the fifth with one out, Jonathan Brandt reached on an error and moved up a base on an Amani Jones single. Tommy Holcomb then walked to load the bases. Kyle Locklear struck out the next hitter for the Knights, but he walked Brandon Perillo and the game was tied at 1-1.

The following frame, Jake Cunkle and Dylan Scott hit back-to-back doubles to take a 2-1 lead, and in the seventh, a two-run shot by Will Mesa put the Mustangs up 4-1. Clarkson responded in the bottom half of the seventh with two runs of their own, as Kent Wilson tripled to start the frame and was followed by a walk to Evan Lira. Joe Pagano then tripled in both players to pull Clarkson within one, 4-3.

Clarkson had its chance to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth when Lira was hit by a pitch and Sean Gill later reached on a walk, but a double play ended any hope of the Knights completing the comeback.

Locklear finished the game with seven strikeouts in 4.2 innings for the Knights. Mateo Sarabia was saddled with the loss in relief, throwing 2.1 innings after Locklear.
