Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
Rochester, NY – A huge seventh inning helped the Clarkson University Baseball team claim the first game of Sunday's doubleheader as the Golden Knights ended up splitting the four-game series against University of Rochester, taking the opener 9-7 before dropping the nightcap 25-8 against the Yellowjackets.

The Golden Knights moved to 10-10 overall and 5-3 in Liberty League contests and Rochester saw its mark go to 12-5 overall and 6-2 in conference games. Clarkson will take on another conference opponent next weekend when the team faces Ithaca College in a four-game set.

Clarkson was quiet for most of the first game before erupting late. The Knights were hitless in their first four innings and the Yellowjackets took advantage by scoring twice in the bottom half of the fourth thanks to a two-run double from Aaron Whitley. Two innings later, Jacob Matzat doubled home John Moses, and then came in on a wild pitch to put Rochester up 4-0. Steve Pickering then singled in two more to put Rochester seemingly in command.

That would change in the seventh as Clarkson rallied to take the lead before even registering their first out. Michael Mieczkowski was hit by a pitch and Jonathan Irons followed with a single for what appeared to be a modest rally. Joe Pagano then tripled to right-center to score two and came home on a Caleb Doyle infield single to make the score 6-3. Kent Wilson singled through the right side to bring the tying run to the plate, and Michael Tito tripled to left when Aaron Whitley's diving attempt missed and the ball rolled to the wall. Rochester made a pitching change, but the left-on-left matchup failed to stop Colby Brouillette, who launched an 0-1 pitch more than 400 feet to right-center for a 7-6 Clarkson lead. After a fly out, Tommy Bianchi was hit by a pitch on the shoulder, bringing Mieczkowski back up for a second plate appearance in the inning. Mieczkowski then hit a liner to left-center, clearing the wall to put Clarkson up 9-6.

Rochester got a run back in the bottom of the seventh, but with the tying run on second, Joe Stockman struck out Whitley and got Joe Rende to fly out to center to end the game.

Mieczkowski reached in all four plate appearances, going 2-for-2 with a walk and a hit by pitch, scoring twice and driving in two. Kent Wilson also had two hits in four at bats. Kyle Locklear ended up as the winning pitcher for the Knights, while Stockman picked up the save for Clarkson.

A sixth game in five days put extra strain on the Clarkson pitching staff and bullpen, and Rochester's offense was more than willing to accept the opportunity, putting up multiple runs in several innings. Clarkson's offense kept up its pace from the previous game, homering five times in the second contest. Zachary Carpin homered twice, and Colby Brouillette, Kyle Locklear, and Jake Millich each homered for the Knights.

Kent Wilson was 3-for-4 in game two while Brouillette, Carpin, and Locklear each had two hits in the second contest.
