Thanks to the warm stretch and continued dry weather in recent weeks, the Clarkson University Baseball team is ready to play at Jack Phillips Stadium, and the Golden Knights will host Route 11 rival St. Lawrence University in a single nine-inning game on Sunday afternoon.

The Series: Dating back to 2015, Clarkson has controlled the series, winning 12 times against just four losses. Clarkson has also won six straight against St. Lawrence, including a 28-9 victory over the Saints in May 2019, the last game that took place at Jack Phillips Stadium.

Key Stats for Clarkson (0-3): Clarkson's first three games came without the benefit of having seen any live pitching in practice, so the Knights should certainly be able to improve upon their strikeout percentage thus far (41 strikeouts in 107 plate appearances). Senior Michael Mieczkowski is a good example, as he struck out three times in his first game but still has a .333/.500/.444 line, something much more in line with his career numbers, and did not whiff in his next two games. Caleb Doyle is proving a solid leadoff man hitting .308 with a .357 on-base percentage. Kent Wilson has three extra-base hits among his four knocks so far, including a pair of home runs. Much like the offense, Clarkson's pitching staff will benefit from more time, as the moundsmen have allowed 30 free passes (25 walks, 5 hit batsmen) in 147 opponent plate appearances.

Key Stats for St. Lawrence (0-2): It's tough to get a handle on the Saints as the sample sizes are smaller than usual. St. Lawrence only played two games in 2020, meaning this will just be the fifth game for the seniors since they were sophomores. James Cronin hit .333 as a freshman back in 2018, but missed most of 2019, though he is off to a strong start this year with four hits in seven at bats, including three doubles. Nicholas Butler batted .316 in 2019 and has already driven in three runs with just two hits this year. Andrew Circelli also hit .288 two seasons ago and is off to a good start with a pair of doubles and three runs batted in through two games in 2021.
