CU Baseball Preview - at Oswego State (4/10)

After a one-day delay due to weather concerns, the Clarkson University Baseball team will head to Central New York to take on SUNYAC foe Oswego State on Wednesday afternoon.

Live Stats

The Series: Last year's doubleheader between the two teams was washed out, keeping the Knights from avenging a doubleheader sweep against the Lakers in 2017. Clarkson and Oswego split the two-game set in 2016.

Key Stats for Clarkson (11-7): While the weekend starters likely won't get more than a few innings in a midweek non-league doubleheader, the pitching staff is what has allowed the Golden Knights to get off to a hot start in the Liberty League this season. Clarkson leads the conference in earned run average (4.32) while allowing teams to hit .262, also a league-low. Since league play began, Clarkson has given up just 2.71 earned runs per nine in the past eight games. On offense, Clarkson's Brad Pearson leads the way with a .424/.493/.729 batting line. The first figure leads the conference while the latter two are both third in the Liberty League. He also has scored more runs (22) than any other player in the conference.

Key Stats for Oswego State (15-8): The Lakers have reached the College World Series each of the last two years thanks to a powerful offense. In 2017, Oswego hit .303/.388/.440 while averaging 6.79 runs per game, and pushed that line to .304/.393/.464 with 8.39 runs per game in 2018. While the average (.290) and slugging (.427) are down slightly this year, the on-base percentage (.414) is up, keeping the Lakers' offense humming along at a clip of 8.65 runs per game through 23 contests in 2019. Ryan Enos (.378/.454/.589), Lukas Olsson (.370/.470/.642), Mike Dellicarri (.311/.442/.649) and Brandon Nicholson (.303/.454/.461) more than do their parts for the offense, combining for 11 home runs, 96 runs scored and 92 runs driven in.
