With rain threatening this weekend's league contests, the Clarkson University Baseball team will look to stay sharp with a non-league contest against SUNY Canton on Wednesday afternoon.

Live Stats/Live Video

The Series: Since SUNY Canton began its program about a decade ago, the Golden Knights have won four of the five contests against the Kangaroos. While the match up was cancelled last year, the two teams split in 2017.

Key Stats for Clarkson (13-11): The Golden Knights possess a very deliberate offense, one that has only attempted 20 stolen bases this year, but the Knights do their best to advance runners with 24 sacrifice bunts, the second most in the Liberty League. The strategy seems to be working as Clarkson is coming through with runners in scoring position as the team averages 5.95 runs per game (fourth in the conference) despite ranking eighth in hitting, on-base percentage and slugging percentage. Senior Brad Pearson ranks second in the league in runs scored (26) thanks to a .395/.462/.679 line which is bolstered by 16 extra-base hits, which is also the second most in the league.

Key Stats for SUNY Canton (5-22): The Roos have won two straight, beating conference foe Stevens in the third game of their league set last weekend and taking down St. Lawrence on Tuesday in a non-league game. Canton's collective offensive slash line is just .212/.334/.261 and the team has struck out 225 times in 28 games. Edward Malinoski is second on the team in batting average at .257, but his offensive value vaults considerably when taking into account the additional 33 times he has reached base with 24 walks and nine hit by pitches. A trio of starters average a strikeout per inning, but the overall numbers for the staff aren't pretty, with an 8.76 earned run average and 2.26 WHIP popping. Although Clarkson doesn't run much, the Knights might take a chance against the Roos as Canton has allowed 78 stolen bases in 82 chances.
