Despite some weather scares in recent days, the field at Jack Phillips Stadium is ready for the home-opener for the Clarkson University Baseball team as the Golden Knights look to build upon their early season conference resume with a four-game set against RIT this weekend.

Live Stats/Live Video

The Series: Over the last five years, the Golden Knights and RIT have faced each other twice in the conference tournament, including the 2017 championship round. The Tigers won both of those matchups and lead 9-4 in the past five seasons. The two teams split a doubleheader last year at a neutral site when the games were played on University of Rochester's turf.

Key Stats for Clarkson (11-9, 7-1 Liberty League): Although the bats were alive in the first four-game set of the year against Vassar, it has been Clarkson's pitching which has led them to a league-best 7-1 start. The Knights' staff has posted a 2.71 earned run average in 63 conference innings, allowing just a .233 batting average with a 1.25 WHIP. Clarkson's defense has also been up to task in the first eight league contests, fielding .984. Junior Joe Stockman has come up big in conference contests, with a hit in each of the eight league games and 10 runs batted in. Although he doesn't have a hitting streak like Stockman, senior Brad Pearson has also been a big bat in conference contests, rolling out a .536/.629/1.071 slash line with 10 extra-base hits and 16 runs scored in league games.

Key Stats for RIT (10-10, 5-3 Liberty League): The Tigers took three out of four from defending league champion Union and also won a two-game makeup doubleheader against Rochester last week, claiming three one-run victories in the process. Junior Stevie Branche ranks second in the conference in both innings pitched (38.0) and strikeouts (36) and owns a 1.89 earned run average with a .210 batting average against. Although it's tougher to throw an ace consistently on league weekends, Branche has pitched twice as many innings as any other pitcher on the RIT staff. Patrick Blackall is hitting .338/.384/.481 with team-highs in home runs (3) and runs batted in (20). Daniel Capra (.346/.464/.500) and Luke McNamara (.342/.432/.421) also rank among the better hitters in the Tigers' lineup.
