CU Baseball Preview - vs. RIT (4/24 - at University of Rochester)

Rescheduled for seemingly every week since originally being postponed in late March, a doubleheader between the Clarkson University Baseball team and RIT will finally be made up, but again it gets pushed up a day as the two teams will look to further avoid weather issues. The two teams will play at a neutral site, facing off on the campus of the University of Rochester at 12:00 noon on Tuesday.

Live Stats

The Series: Since RIT joined the Liberty League in the 2012 season, Clarkson has gone 7-12 against the Tigers. However, RIT has won six straight games against the Knights, including the game that propelled the Tigers into the NCAA Tournament, a 9-4 win in the Liberty League Championship round.

Key Stats for Clarkson (10-12 overall, 5-7 Liberty League): It's no secret that the Golden Knights have struggled at the plate this season, hitting .257/.332/.323, ranking last in both on-base percentage and slugging percentage, as well as last in runs per game (4.04 rpg). The Knights have been held to three runs or fewer 12 times in 22 games and have recorded double figures in hits on just five occasions. However, the Knights have done a good job of limiting opponents' chances, allowing only 98 runs, the second fewest in the conference, and Clarkson's 4.01 earned run average also ranks second in the league. In 22 games, opponents have only attempted 22 steals, succeeding a miniscule 11 times.

Key Stats for RIT (11-10 overall, 7-6 Liberty League): Only RIT has kept opponents from scoring better than the Knights, delivering a team earned run average of just 3.52 and a .245 batting average against. However, both teams are coming off a weekend in which they played four games, so pitching depth could be a question mark for each squad. RIT is hitting just .255 as a team, but bolsters its offense with 88 walks to get a .364 on-base percentage. Patrick Mylott is the team's top hitter, batting .355/.524/.565, and is adept on reaching base without hits. Though Mylott ranks second on the team with 22 hits, he also adds 14 walks and eight hit by pitches to his stat line for the .524 on-base percentage, ranking third in the conference in that category.
