Golden Knights Leave RPI With a Split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 A shutout victory in the first game of the day helped offset a loss in the second as the Clarkson University Baseball team split a doubleheader with RPI on Sunday.
 
Clarkson is now 8-10 on the season and 5-5 in conference. RPI improves to 11-13 overall and 6-4 in the Liberty League.
 
In the first game, it was one way traffic for Clarkson. The Golden Knights took the lead in the second inning as Joe Fraser's double down the right field line and Ben Knauf's single to left field both scored a run. Clarkson then doubled its lead its lead in the third inning when Dom Pirro hit a sacrifice fly and then Chris Miller knocked an RBI double into center field. Clarkson closed out the scoring in the fifth as Fraser's single scored Pirro.
 
Ted Wilson threw a complete game shutout for Clarkson. Wilson pitched seven innings, allowing two hits and three walks to go with two strikeouts.
 
In the second game, RPI blew open the game in the bottom of the seventh and never looked back as the Golden Knights fell 17-2.
 
The game was scoreless until the top of the fifth inning. Weston Hawkins homered to left field to start the scoring. Thomas Desmond and Ethann Meister hit consecutive doubles to score two and one runs respectively. Another RPI run in the sixth inning gave the Engineers a 5-1 lead.
 
The game was blown open in the top of the seventh with RPI putting up nine runs. The Engineers had six hits in the inning, with two Clarkson errors helping.
 
RPI added three runs in the top of the eighth and Clarkson got another run back in the eighth when Nolan Duda's sacrifice fly scored Alex Hill. That was the final run of the game.
 
Clarkson used six pitchers through the second game as Mike Bubniak took the loss.
 
Clarkson will finally host a game this season as Bard comes to town for a four game set starting with a doubleheader on April 14th.
