CU Baseball Doubles Up Canton 19-8

Box Score With its highest run total of the season, the Clarkson University Baseball team dominated SUNY Canton 19-8 on Wednesday afternoon.

Clarkson is now 12-13 on the season and has won 9 of its last 11 games. Canton drops to 9-19.

Clarkson opened the scoring in the top of the first inning. Anthony Padrazo started the game with a single to right center and then stole second and took third on the throw to second base. Will Coleman then singled to right field to score Padrazo. Coleman also stole second base to move into scoring position. Greg Jasek grounded out to third base with Coleman moving up to third and then Coleman came around to score on a Canton error.

Clarkson really broke the game open with a nine run third inning. The first six Clarkson batters in the inning reached base as the Golden Knights scored four runs before they had recorded an out. An RBI groundout by Ben Knauf was the second out of the inning, but Clarkson kept the rally going. After a Padrazo walk, Coleman singled to score Padrazo and Connor Martin to make the score 9-0. Jasek then capped the inning with a two run home run to left field, the second home run of his collegiate career.

Clarkson continued the offensive barrage in the fourth with Mike Bonk and Jasek hitting RBI singles. Canton finally got on the board with two runs in the fourth and then another in the sixth. Clarkson put one more run in its column in the seventh when Dom Pirro singled to score Chris Miller. But the next five runs were scored by Canton. Three runs for Canton in the bottom of the eighth had the Kangaroos trailing 14-8 heading into the final frame.

Clarkson's offense came to life again in the ninth. Dan Pariso's single scored Pirro for the first run of the inning. Clarkson proceeded to load the bases and a double by Knauf cleared them for three more runs. Knauf finished the scoring when he came home on a passed ball.

On the mound for Clarkson, Joe Rooney threw six effective innings to earn the win. He allowed three runs on four hits, four walks, and four strikeouts. Vincent Granuzzo threw one inning in relief and Ethan Kornbrek pitched two thirds of an inning. Pirro closed the game on the mound and struck out three of the five batters he faced.

Clarkson will next play host to Skidmore in two doubleheaders this weekend.
