After a slow start to the season, the Clarkson University Baseball team has caught fire recently, with the Golden Knights winning six straight and seven of their last eight. Clarkson will try to keep its momentum going with its first home game of the season when the Green and Gold play host to Oswego State on Tuesday afternoon. Clarkson will then travel just down the road to play SUNY Canton on Wednesday night.

Clarkson started the season 3-12 overall and 0-4 in the Liberty League. After a four-game sweep of Bard over the weekend, Clarkson is now 10-12 overall with a 7-5 conference record and has moved into a tie for second in the Liberty League.

Clarkson has been led by a quartet of starting pitchers. Ian Castle and Ted Wilson have been the top two pitchers for Clarkson. Castle has a team-best 1.55 ERA with Wilson right behind him at 1.82. Wilson has a team-high three wins and has pitched 34.2 innings. Will Coleman and Eddie Miller have also come on strong lately, with the pair winning in consecutive starts. Coleman has 30 strikeouts which is second in the Liberty League while opposing batters are hitting just .203 against Miller, the sixth lowest average in the conference.

At the plate, Chris Miller has been the top performer for Clarkson. He leads the Liberty League in batting average (.450), slugging percentage (.675), and on-base percentage (.516). Miller is tied with Anthony Padrazo for the team lead in runs scored with 24. Padrazo also leads the team in walks with 11 free passes. Greg Jasek is first on the team in RBI's, having knocked in 20 runs. Fourth on the team in batting average is Brad Pearson who also launched his first home run of the season against Bard. It was the third home run of the season for Clarkson with Miller hitting the other two. Pearson was named Liberty League Rookie of the Week for his performance, the second time this season he has been selected.

Oswego comes in as the hottest team in the country. The Lakers are 23-3 on the season with a 10-2 record in the SUNYAC and have won 15 games in a row. The current winning streak has moved them up to sixth in the nation in the D3baseball poll, the highest ever ranking for the program. Eric Hamilton is the top offensive threat for Oswego. He is hitting .439 and has already hit 11 home runs and 10 doubles. On the mound, Brian Nolan and Robert Donnelly have combined for a 9-0 record in 11 starts. Nolan has a team-best 2.02 ERA while Donnelly has struck out 30 batters.

Canton is 9-18 this season and has a 3-9 Empire 8 record. The Kangaroos are currently on a three game losing streak after being swept by St. John Fisher last weekend. Wilson Matos leads the way at the plate for Canton with a .384 batting average and 24 runs scored. Canton has hit 21 home runs and has five different hitters with at least three circuit clouts. Travis Bigelow leads the team in innings pitched by a wide margin as the junior moundsman has 50.2 innings under his belt. He has a 2-5 record with four complete games. Last season the two teams met in Potsdam and Clarkson earned a 6-2 win. Chris Miller launched a two-run home run in the win.

First pitch against Oswego will be at 2:00 pm on Tuesday in Jack Phillips Stadium with the second game immediately following. The game at Canton is scheduled to start at 4:00 pm.
