Baseball Plays Four Games Against St. Lawrence

Paul Ludden is tied for the team lead in stolen bases.
Heading into the final weekend of the regular season, the Clarkson University Baseball team is on the cusp of earning a spot in the Liberty League playoffs for the second consecutive year. The Golden Knights will play four games against rival St. Lawrence with the first two games taking place on Saturday at St. Lawrence and Clarkson hosting Sunday's doubleheader.

Clarkson has a 20-6 overall record this season and is 13-5 in the Liberty League. They need just one more win to clinch a spot in the conference tournament. St. Lawrence has a 15-17 overall record and their 6-13 conference record puts them out of postseason contention.

Clarkson used strong hitting to take three out of four games from Rochester last weekend. They scored 20 runs in the four games. Sophomore Chris Miller went 5-13 at the plate and scored five runs across the four games and was named to the Liberty League Weekly Honor Roll. Senior John Coleman continues to lead the Golden Knights in most offensive categories. Coleman is batting a team best .449 which puts him in second in the Liberty League and is second in the conference in on-base percentage at .533. Miller and Coleman are tied for the team lead in extra base hits with 10 apiece. Junior Greg Jasek leads the team in RBIs with 21 while senior Matt Jenack has a team high 17 walks. On the basepaths, sophomores Paul Ludden and Dom Pirro both have six stolen bases. Although junior Anthony Padrazo does not yet have enough at-bats to qualify for the Liberty League leaderboard, he has hit .441 in his 34 at-bats.

Clarkson got strong pitching performances from sophomore Ted Wilson and freshman Will Coleman. Wilson picked up the only loss of the weekend on Saturday even though he pitched a strong seven and two-thirds innings, allowing only a pair of runs. Will Coleman picked up his fourth victory of the season in the first game on Sunday. He pitched all seven innings, allowing only two runs on five hits. His performance helped him be named the Liberty League Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season.  Freshman Andrew Smith and junior Jamie Terry notched the other two wins during the weekend. Juniors Ian Castle and Joe Rooney have also performed well on the mound this season. The pair are tied for fourth in the Liberty League in allowing only 12 runs this season.

St. Lawrence has struggled this season and currently sit two games under .500 this year. They have been led at the plate by Michael LeFevre and Mark Syron, who are batting .394 and .360 respectively. Andrew Schreyack leads the team with a 3.05 ERA in 38 innings pitched. They started the conference schedule strong by taking all four games against Bard, but that is the last time they have won a conference series. However, last year the Saints were able to win three out of four games against Clarkson.

The first two games of the series will start at St. Lawrence at 1:00 pm on Saturday and then the two teams will play two more games on Sunday at Clarkson starting at 12:00 noon.
