Barnum Scores 200th Goal in Knights 18-8 Win Over Oneonta

Oneonta, NY - Graduate student Madelynn Barnum scored three of her five goals in the first quarter, including the 200th of her career, as the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team remained unbeaten with an 18-8 victory over Oneonta State on Thursday afternoon.

The Golden Knights improved to 3-0 on the year, while the Red Dragons dipped to 0-3. Clarkson will take on another SUNYAC foe next week, hosting Plattsburgh State on Tuesday, March 11th.

The Green and Gold and Oneonta were even for barely 30 seconds, as the Golden Knights picked up a goal from Morgan Kenna at 14:23 in the first quarter and began the game with five goals in the opening seven minutes. Oneonta picked up two scores midway through the first quarter, but two goals in the final minute, one for Annie Dufault and the other from Barnum, allowed Clarkson to close out the first period with an 8-2 lead.

A player-up goal by Gabby Cranfield at 14:08 continued Clarkson's torrid offensive opening, though the pace slowed somewhat for the Knights for the remainder of the period. Cranfield scored again four minutes after her first goal, and Lauren McCorry and Barnum scored in the final four-plus minutes of the period. In the third, Brooklynne Perrigo scored twice to keep the clock moving in teh second half. That would be the case for the remainder of the game, as the Knights held at least a 10-goal advantage for the final 26 minutes of the game.

Cranfield led the way offensively for the Knights, scoring seven points on three goals and four assists, while Barnum was one point short of that thanks to five goals and an assist. Perrigo and Dufault tacked on three goals apiece for the Knights as well. Jennaca McGill had one save in the first 30 minutes, and Riley Donovan denied two shots in the last 30 minutes of the game.

Cassidy Moore scored four points with three goals and an assist to lead Oneonta. Elizabeth Doherty had three points thanks to two goals and one helper and Ellie Downey tacked on two goals. Julia Hawkins was busy in the Oneonta crease, making seven saves on the 25 shots on goal. Clarkson finished the game with a 32-13 edge in total shots.
