Knights Head Into Conference Slate Unbeaten After 24-4 Win Over Plattsburgh State

Potsdam, NY – A dozen different players scored a goal and 14 registered a point or more as the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team nearly matched its single-game record for goals in a 24-4 victory over Plattsburgh State on Tuesday afternoon.

The Golden Knights stayed unbeaten at 4-0 and will being Liberty League play on Saturday when the team hosts Vassar College. Plattsburgh State fell to 1-3 on the year.

The 24 goals scored is tied for second most in program history, matching the 24 tallied against the Cardinals in 2019 and just one short of the 25 produced against SUNY Potsdam during the 2023 campaign.

Although Plattsburgh got on the scoreboard first, tallying less than a minute into the game, it took only 39 seconds for the Golden Knights to tie the game and less than 90 seconds to take the lead, something that the Green and Gold would never relinquish. Clarkson scored nine times in the opening quarter, including three from Makenna Cassin. At the start of the second, Clarkson put in two in the first two minutes and kept the clock moving by its fourth goal just over five minutes in when the Knights went ahead by 10. Plattsburgh occasionally challenged the non-stopping clock, but all hopes of that ceased in the second half when the Knights kept the Cardinals completely off the board.

Clarkson's defense was particularly strong over the final 45 minutes, giving up only three total shots in that stretch while forcing 14 turnovers in the same amount of time.

Gabby Cranfield led the team's offense with six points, scoring twice and assisting on four other goals, while Makenna Cassin picked up five points on four goals and one assist to go along with five draw controls. Brooklynne Perrigo and Morgan Kenna each tallied four points on three goals and an assist and Madelynn Barnum scored three more goals. Sydney Nakas also had three points with a goal and two assists.

For Plattsburgh, Cynthia Barnosky was the only player with multiple points, assisting on two goals. Ashley O'Hara, Maddy Garcia, Leah Klotz, and Erica Dickinson each scored a goal. Lillian Gilroy also won seven draws.

Overall, the Knights had a 38-10 lead in shots (34-8 shots on goal). Jennaca McGill and Riley Donovan split time in the Clarkson crease, each making two saves. Anna Myers had 10 saves for the Cardinals to go along with three groundballs.
