Clarkson earned a point and a half in ECAC action with a 2-2 tie against Princeton on Friday night at Cheel. With the tie and the Quinnipiac loss, the Knights pull within 1 point of their Saturday opponent.
After a scoreless first period, the Golden Knights opened the night up with
Rhea Hicks scoring the first goal of the game with a goal line pass from
Haley Winn from which she shoved the puck into the net, with
Nicole Gosling also receiving an assist. A minute later, the Golden Knights went back on the power play where they utilized the same play with
Sena Catterall in front of the crease and Winn sent a pass to the slot which Catterall deflected into the net, with
Anne Cherkowski tacking on an assist of her own.
The Princeton Tigers are able to score two goals and tie the game in the back half of the second period. Fetterolf pulled the Tigers to within 1 goal at 9:54 and then Paul scored at 14:05 to tie the game on the power play.
With scoreless third and overtime periods, the game goes to a shootout. With
Haley Winn up first she scores going over Jennifer Olnowich's left pad and finding the back of the net. With the next five shots all being saves, Winn's goal won the Golden Knights the shoot out. The shoot out in ECAC Women's action does not count in points being awarded but does go toward tie breaking in ECAC Standings at the end of the season if needed.
Holly Gruber ended the night with 18 saves and her 8th win of the season, and her first shootout win as a Golden Knight.
Tomorrow, the Golden Knights take on the Quinnipiac Bobcats in a senior night showdown, at Cheel Arena at 3pm. Following the game, there will be a ceremony honoring the senior Golden Knights.
