Late Rally Puts Knights On Winning Side to Open 2025

Hackettstown, NJ – Four runs scored thanks to three straight triples in the seventh as the Clarkson University Baseball team opened the 2025 season with a 12-10 win over Centenary University.

The two teams will play a doubleheader on Sunday with one nine-inning game and one seven-inning game slated to start at 11:00 am.

There were very few zeroes put on the scoreboard between the two teams throughout Saturday's season-opener. Clarkson scored one in the top of the first as Joe Figliolino delivered a two-out triple and then came home on a Cam Jerrett single. The Cyclones responded with a run in the bottom of the first thanks to an infield single from Dominick Chiego. Centenary picked up five in the bottom of the second with Chiego again accounting for the big blow, driving in three on a home run to left.

Clarkson would not let the early deficit slow its offense, though, scoring three in the top of the third. Cam Jerrett doubled in a run, scoring Figliolino again, and CJ Cartier singled in another to make it 6-3. A throwing error with runners on first and third put one more on the scoreboard. In the bottom half of the frame, Centenary got one run back on a Jake Keenan sacrifice fly, putting the tally at 7-4.

The Golden Knights rallied to tie the game by the top of the fifth, getting two in the fourth and one in the fifth. Seth Albert scored on a single by Figliolino and Cam Jerrett delivered a single to plate Aidan Kuefner in the fourth, and a double to right-center from Beau Vardion saw CJ Kanick complete the circuit, tying the contest at 7-7.

Clarkson went up by a run in the top of the sixth, as Cam Jerrett and Figliolino combined for another run, with Jerrett singling home the Knights' catcher. However, the lead was short-lived when Chiego drove in two more with a double.

The Knights truly broke out the bats in the top of the seventh, scoring four times with two outs. Albert started things off with a triple, then scored on a triple from Kuefner. Figliolino followed with yet another triple to plate another run, and an infield single by Jerrett pushed Figliolino across to make it 12-9. Centenary clipped a run off Clarkson's lead with a single from Dominick Zinna, but the Knights escaped the inning with a relay play to third.

The final two innings were without scoring, as Nicholas Hofacker shut things down late for the Knights. The graduate student tossed a scoreless ninth by getting a groundout to second, a strikeout, and a lineout to close things out.
