Knights Sweep Cyclones to Start 2025 3-0

Hackettstown, NJ – Thanks to another solid effort at the dish from Cam Jerrett and two good starts from Mateo Sarabia and Dan Horowitz, the Clarkson University Baseball team completed a weekend sweep of Centenary University on Sunday, winning the first contest 8-6 and then taking the nightcap 7-2.

In the opener, Joe Figliolino kept up his torrid start by hitting a two-out solo home run in the first inning, which was followed by two more hits and another run as Cam Jerrett doubled and came home on a CJ Cartier single. In the second, the Golden Knights would get all the runs they would need for the win, scoring five more to make it 7-1. The first four runners of the inning would reach as Seth Albert delivered a two-run double to start the onslaught. Aidan Kuefner followed with a sacrifice fly to score Aidan McGuire, and Figliolino tacked on a double to left to plate Albert, making it 6-0. Jerrett then singled home Figliolino for the seventh run of the game.

Centenary got two runs back in the fifth on a two-out double from Castillo. Clarkson picked up an insurance run in the top of the ninth on a one-out double from Jerrett which scored Kuefner. The extra run provided further breathing room for Clarkson, which turned out to be important since the Cyclones scored three in the bottom of the ninth on a two-out homer by Castillo, but Nolan Zenkewicz induced a groundout to end the game.

Jerrett finished 3-for-4 in the first game with a pair of RBI, while Figliolino and Kuefner each produced two hits. Mateo Sarabia earned the win via the pre-determined start rule, throwing 32 innings over three innings in which he allowed a single earned run.

Game two again saw the Knights get on the scoreboard early, tallying once in the first. Three straight hitters reached by getting hit by pitches, but only Figliolino and Jerrett were able to move up later on a wild pitch since Kuefner was tossed out at second on a steal attempt. CJ Cartier then walked to load the bases and James Mason drove in a run the hard way as he, too, was hit by a pitch, making it 1-0. Centenary got a run back in the bottom of the third thanks to a sacrifice fly from Castillo, briefly knotting the game at 1-1, but Clarkson picked up three runs in the top of the fourth. Aidan McGuire reached on an error allowing James Mason to score, and McGuire came around on a triple by Seth Albert. Kuefner followed with a single to left to plate Albert, putting the score at 4-1.

Centenary picked up a run in the bottom of the fourth on a single by Carrillo, but an inning later, Clarkson scored two more runs, both with two out in the inning. Figliolino opened with a walk and moved up to second when Mason was hit by a pitch. Kyle Ventola then singled to left to plate one and Jackson Waters reached on an error to score another run. Clarkson picked up its final run of the game in the sixth when Jerrett provide more two-out magic with a double to score Kuefner.

Albert and Kuefner each had two hits in game two as Clarkson recorded seven hits overall in the second contest. Dan Horowitz notched a win, giving up one hit over four frames.
