Wilson Gets to 150 Hits, But Knights Fall to Rochester, 9-6

Rochester, NY – Graduate student Kent Wilson recorded his 150th career hit as the Clarkson University Baseball team's offense got going again on Sunday, but the Golden Knights couldn't keep pace with University of Rochester in a 9-6 loss at Monroe Community College on Sunday afternoon.

The Golden Knights fell to 7-12 on the season and to 0-8 in the Liberty League, while Rochester improved to 12-11 and 7-2. Clarkson is scheduled to face Plattsburgh State on Wednesday and then has two home doubleheaders slated for Jack Phillips Stadium this weekend.

Rochester picked up a run in the top of the first when Josh Leadem singled in Alec Ellison, but the Golden Knights responded with three in the bottom half of the frame. CJ Cartier tripled home Aidan Kuefner and then scored himself on a double by Joe Figliolino. The sophomore catcher Figliolino later scored on a sacrifice fly by Kent Wilson, putting the score at 3-1.

Rochester rallied with six runs in the next three innings to take a lead it would never relinquish. Luke Gregory doubled in a run in the second and the Yellowjackets gained the lead in the third as Alec Ellison hit a solo shot and Leadem later scored on an error. In the fourth, Dylan Stezzi drew a bases loaded walk to force in a run and Alexander Gonzalo doubled in two to put the tally at 7-3.

Neither team would score again until the seventh, as Gonzalo came home an error for the Yellowjackets, making it 8-3. Clarkson responded with two in the bottom of the inning as Robert Whalen scored Wilson on a sac fly and James Mason's ground out to second gave Christopher Griggs a chance to score from third. Each team picked up one more in the eighth. The Yellowjackets got their run on a sac bunt and Clarkson's run came on a double by Kent Wilson, scoring CJ Cartier. In the bottom of the ninth, Robert Fratangelo reached on a single with one out, but he was erased on a fielder's choice at second to end the game.

Cartier finished 4-for-5 with two runs and an RBI, Figliolino was 3-for-5, and Wilson drove in two while going 2-for-4.
