Clarkson Baseball Falls 7-1 in Midweek Rematch Against Plattsburgh

Plattsburgh, NY – Unlike last week's slugfest when both teams reached double digits, the Clarkson University Baseball team and Plattsburgh State traded plenty of zeroes, but two solid innings for the home team allowed the Cardinals to down the Golden Knights 7-1 in a non-league contest Thursday afternoon.

The Golden Knights fell to 7-13 on the season while Plattsburgh State improved to 13-7. Clarkson is scheduled for a couple of doubleheaders this weekend, hosting Union College and Skidmore College.

Clarkson picked up its lone run of the game in the third inning to open the scoring. With one out, Jake Millich singled to center and Will Roda followed with a single to left to put runners on first and second. Aidan Kuefner then doubled down the left field line to plate Millich to make it 1-0.

Plattsburgh scored three in the bottom half of the third, all unearned, as the first two runners reached on errors for the Cardinals. A single by Kyle Cremin loaded the bases, and two straight fielder's choices accounted for the first two runs. A sac fly then plated Cremin for the third tally of the inning. In the fourth, three more came around for the Cardinals. A walk, a hit by pitch, and another walk loaded the bases. Another hit by pitch forced in a run and then a two-run single from Nick Cergol allowed the Cardinals to build a 6-1 lead.

Clarkson actually finished with a lead in the hit department, recording seven base knocks in the game to the Cardinals' five. Millich and Roda each had two hits in the game for the Golden Knights. Carter Gould took the loss for the Knights, allowing three hits and two walks in three innings, though all three runs he allowed were unearned.
