Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Knights Topped By Third-Ranked RIT, 21-9

Rochester, NY - Seven-spots in the second and third quarters put the game out of reach for the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team fell to third-ranked RIT 21-9 in Liberty League action Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights dropped below .500 at 6-7 overall and 0-4 in the Liberty League while RIT moved to 13-1 overall and 4-1 in conference games. Clarkson hosts top-five ranked St. Lawrence University on Wednesday. 

Although Clarkson was on the scoreboard first thanks to a goal from Tyler Hall in the opening minute, RIT matched the score at the 10:40 mark and then rattled off nine more in a row to make it 10-1 near the midway point of the second quarter. Matt Reilly and Joe Kelly scored just 28 seconds apart to break the streak and get the Clarkson offense going again, but RIT ended the half with two more scores. RIT held a 32-19 lead in shots in the first half. 

RIT opened the third period with four straight goals, halted briefly by Connor Matthews at 8:02, and then produced four more goals. In the final 16 minutes of the game, Clarkson produced five goals to RIT's two.

Connor Matthews recorded four points on three goals and an assist, Matt Reilly scored twice, Joe Kelly had two goals, and Mario Streiff added a pair of assists. Defensively, Matt Szwagulinski recorded four groundballs, while Eric Gellasch (seven saves) and Griffin Emerson (five saves) combined to make 12 stops in the Clarkson crease. 

For RIT, Jake Erickson had eight points with three goals and five assists and Luke Pilcher recorded five points with four goals and one assist.
