Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Clarkson advances to ECAC Championship Game with 3-1 win over SLU

The Clarkson Women's Hockey Team will be heading to the ECAC Title Game for the 2nd straight season after a 3-1 win over St. Lawrence on Friday night at Colgate's Class of 1965 Arena.

The Saints jumped out with early pressure on the Knights and held a 7-2 shot advantage at one point in the first period.  ECAC Goalie of the Year, Michelle Pasiechnyk showed why she earned that honor in that first period, especially 52 seconds into the game when she flashed the glove on a redirected point shot in front.

The Knights were unable to convert on an early power play and then were able to kill off a Saints power play with 7 minutes left in the period.

After the Knights killed off the SLU advantage, they started to mount pressure and Catterall scores vs SLUthen at 17:19 ECAC 2nd Team All Star, Haley Winn put the Knights on the board when she ripped a shot just under the cross bar on a great feed from Brooke McQuigge.

Clarkson would strike again just 4:45 into the middle frame when Sena Catterall would collect a rebound of the lively boards at Class of '65 Arena and tip it up and over the arm of Nordstrom to put the Knights up 2.  Post Game Catterall told the media "I just saw the puck come out, we know these boards are pretty bouncy, and I just wanted to get the puck on net"

St. Lawrence would pull within 1 just minutes later at 6:02 when Rachel Bjorgan would weave through the defense and slip a shot under the pads of Pasiechnyk.

Clarkson had been out shot 24 to 16 in the first two periods, but used their offensive possessions out shoot SLU 11 to 8 in the 3rd period and help limit the chances and in zone time the Saints would have.  Coach Wells would pull Nordstrom with just under 2 minutes to play and a clear high of the glass that was tipped by a Saints defense, would land near the far blueline allowing Sena Catterall to skate in and seal the win with an empty net goal at 19:03.

Pasiechnyk would finish with 31 saves in the win.

Clarkson will face Colgate in a rematch of last year's ECAC Title game.  Puck drop is slated for 5:00 pm at Colgate.  The game will be available for stream on ESPN+ and can be heard on B99.3 FM.
