Knights' Three-Game Win Streak Halted at SLU, 73-66

Canton, NY – Hitting free throws down the stretch, St. Lawrence was able to hold off a late comeback bid by the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team as the Golden Knights suffered just their second loss of the 2023-24 season, falling 73-66 on Wednesday night in Liberty League action at Burkman Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights saw their three-game win streak snapped, putting the team's mark at 6-2 and 2-1 in conference games, while St. Lawrence edged forward to 5-3 and 2-1. Clarkson gets some time off for finals next week, but has one more game in December when the team hosts Vermont State University Lyndon on December 17.

St. Lawrence rolled out of the gates with first seven points of the contest, keeping Clarkson off the scoreboard for nearly five minutes until Finn Cork converted at 15:16. That was the only basket for the Knights until Matteo Sinon hit a 3-pointer at 12:13, as the Saints led 18-5 near the midway point of the half. St. Lawrence led by as many as 15 in the first half, but the Knights responded with a 12-0 run in barely three minutes, capped by a pair of 3-pointers from Steve DeRegis, putting the score at 22-19. However, the Knights would go scoreless for the rest of the half.

Clarkson continued to come back in the second half, reducing the deficit to one on four occasions, including 45-44 following a 3-pointer from Ryan Miles-Ferguson with 9:38 remaining. Chris Downs followed with a 3-pointer at the other end to put the Saints up by four, starting a 10-0 run to return the margin to double digits. Long-range shots once again helped the Knights get back into the contest, and Clarkson was within three (64-61) when Braeden Burns scored six straight points for the Green and Gold. The Knights came up empty in their next possession, and the Saints picked up offensive rebounds to extend their possessions, limiting Clarkson's chances at the other end. Burns did convert another layup and Ryan Miles-Ferguson hit a corner three to put the deficit at two, but St. Lawrence made its free throws down the stretch to clinch the win.

Ryan Miles-Ferguson finished with 18 points, going 5-for-9 from beyond the 3-point arc. Braeden Burns added 16 points, Steve DeRegis went 4-for-7 from the 3-point line to score 12 points in 16 minutes, and Jack Dalgety chipped in 10 points. For St. Lawrence, Adam Dudzinski scored 20 points on 5-for-8 shooting from the field and 7-for-8 from the free throw line, and Andrew Cowan produced 18 points and 13 rebounds, going 8-for-11 from the floor and getting six offensive boards.
