Burns Scores 28 in Knights 83-70 Victory Over SUNY Canton

Potsdam, NY – A 21-0 run over the course of five-plus minutes early in the second half turned a deficit into a double-digit lead for the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team, as the Golden Knights collected an 83-70 victory over SUNY Canton Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights improved to 7-2 on the season, while Canton fell to 5-10 overall. Clarkson hits the road for two league contests this weekend before beginning an eight-game home stand in January.

Clarkson rolled out to an 11-2 lead in the first four-and-a-half minutes, capped by a Ryan Miles-Ferguson layup at 15:25. The Knights still led by that margin four minutes later when Braeden Burns recorded a steal and a dunk on the break to put the tally at 20-11, but SUNY Canton responded with a 13-0 run in the next four minutes, including three 3-pointers, with Ian Florence-Washington's long-range shot giving the Roos a 24-20 advantage. The two teams essentially exchanged points for the rest of the half, with the Roos going into the locker room with a five-point lead.

At the start of the second, the Roos pushed their lead to eight on an Eli Larson layup at 17:18, only to have the offense go cold while Clarkson used a variety of looks to go on its 21-0 run. Several players hit 3-pointers, but it was some strong takes in the paint from Braeden Burns which kept the streak alive, as the Knights went up 54-41 at 11:47.

Canton was able to get back into the game thanks to some pressure in the back court, causing turnovers and some open looks on the interior. Jevonte Williams hit a 3-pointer at 8:10 to reduce the gap to just three, and Canton tied the game twice a few moments later. Jack Dalgety broke the knot at 5:51 with a 3-pointer, as Clarkson slowly increased its advantage down the stretch, returning the margin to 13 at the conclusion of the contest.

Braeden Burns matched his season-high with 28 points, shooting 11-for-19 from the floor. Ryan Miles-Ferguson topped 20 points for the fourth time in five games, hitting for 21 points to go along with six rebounds and five assists. Jack Dalgety was a single rebound short of a double-double with 12 points and nine boards, and Matteo Sinon added in 12 points.

For Canton, Jevonte Williams went 10-for-19 from the floor for 24 points and Eli Larson recorded a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds, going 8-for-15 from the field.
