Clarkson will look to finish off the last of the non-conference portion of their schedule today when they host the Syracuse Orange at Cheel Arena. The Knights are 10-0-1 in non league play and look to keep that success going as they finish up the home and home series with Syracuse.
On Tuesday, the Knights fell behind 1-0, after a slow start in the 1st period. In the final 2 periods, Clarkson out shot the Orange 30-3 and stormed back with 4 straight goals from
Anne Cherkowski,
Jenna Goodwin,
Alexie Guay, and
Brooke McQuigge.
Clarkson is 5th in the national polls and 5th in the Pairwise Rankings, and the only team left in NCAA Div. I Hockey without a loss. The non conference games have a significant impact on the Pairwise Rankings, which are the metric used by the NCAA Selection Committee for the NCAA Tournament. The ECAC has 6 of the 11 spots occupied in the Pairwise Rankings as of 11/19, so the the league games will help the Knights in the Pairwise, but finishing off their non league games well, will help maintain a ranking in the top 11. Â
The Knights success has come in large part ot such diversity of scoring sources. Teams have had trouble matching up against any one line combination, as the top two lines have 43 and 32 points respectively. Adding difficulty to any teams defensive game plan is that not only do the Knights have balanced production in their forward lines, but their top two point producers are from the point in
Haley Winn and
Nicole Gosling. Winn leads the team in assists with 14 and points with 17. Gosling is tied for second in points with 16 and tied for the team lead in goals scored with 7. Â
