Wilson Drives in Five, Hofacker K's Eight in Clarkson's 7-4 Win at Union

Amsterdam, NY – Junior Kent Wilson had three extra-base hits and drove in five runs as the Clarkson University Baseball team picked up a 7-4 victory over Union College on day two of its three-game Liberty League set on Sunday afternoon.

The Golden Knights improved to 4-8 on the season and 1-2 in Liberty League contests, while Union dropped to 7-6 and 2-1. Clarkson will next face Cortland State in a midweek contest on Wednesday afternoon in Cortland.

It didn't take long for the Golden Knights to get on the scoreboard as Caleb Doyle led off the contest with a walk and then came around on an opposite field homer by Wilson to put Clarkson up 2-0. In the second, Clarkson racked up three more runs with some two-out magic as Cam Jerrett started a rally when he was hit by a pitch. Michael Tito followed with a single and Caleb Doyle then reached on a bobbled grounder. Wilson then made the Dutchmen pay for the miscue as he doubled to right-center to score all three runners and put Clarkson up 5-0.

Union put up a run in the fifth with a solo homer for Jono Santos, but the Dutchmen's bats were held in check for the next few frames. Clarkson picked up a pair of insurance runs in the top of the ninth as Caleb Doyle homered to left center and Wilson scored on an error after doubling and stealing third.

The Dutchmen put together a rally in the bottom of the ninth, scoring three times and threatening for more, but Nicholas Hofacker got out of a jam with a fly out to end the contest.

Wilson finished with a homer, two doubles, five runs driven in, two runs scored, and a stolen base in the win. Colby Brouillette also recorded a pair of hits while Doyle reached base four times with a hit and three walks to score three runs. Hofacker tossed all nine innings, striking out eight and allowing five hits and four walks for the win.
