Knights Open Up 2022 with 27-1 Win Over SUNY Canton

Potsdam, NY – Four different players scored a goal in the opening four minutes for the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team and the rout was on as the Golden Knights cruised past SUNY Canton in the season-opener 27-1 on Wednesday at Hantz Field.

The Golden Knights are scheduled to play this coming Sunday at St. Michael's in Vermont and then the team returns home to play Nazareth on March 5th.

Sebastian Geiger scored 95 seconds into the contest, but the Knights had to wait only 21 more seconds before Alex Seiler converted. Only 39 seconds later, KJ Sarni converted, and just 36 seconds after Sarni's goal Matt Reilly found the back of the net. Geiger scored a minute later to put the Knights up 5-0 before any fans had even settled in. The Knights then went on another five goal run over a stretch of less than four minutes in the waning moments of the period to gain a 10-0 lead through 15 minutes.

The second quarter saw even more offense as Sarni converted three times and Adam Canfield scored twice to headline eight different goal scorers in the period. By the third period, the Knights discontinued their pressure by taking just 11 shots overall and then followed that up with no attempts in the fourth quarter.

Overall, Clarkson had significant advantages in shots (64-8), shots on goal (41-5), and groundballs (48-10).

Everyone on the Clarkson roster played, save for those that missed the game due to injury, spreading out the scoring bonanza a bit. KJ Sarni led the team with four goals and was followed by Matt Reilly, Adam Canfield, and Connor Matthews with three goals each, while Thomas Fiebich also added five points with two goals and three assists. Logan Wilkinson won 12 of 14 face offs and had 11 groundballs and Matthew Hansen was 10-for-15 on face offs with seven groundballs. Max Hoffer also added four groundballs.

Each of Clarkson's five goalies saw time, combining for four saves, while Sam Servati made 14 saves for the Kangaroos. Hunter Olsen scored the lone goal for SUNY Canton.
