Four in Double Figures as Clarkson Claims 92-83 Win Over Union

Potsdam, NY – Senior Teddy Fravel dominated in the first half and Ryan Miles-Ferguson had all 19 of his points in the second half as the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team held on for a 92-83 lead over Union College in Liberty League action Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights improved to 3-3 on the season and 1-1 in conference games, while Union remained winless at 0-7 and 0-2. Clarkson will take on St. Lawrence University in a midweek doubleheader on Wednesday.

Clarkson jumped out to an early 11-0 lead capped off by a three-point play on a layup-and-one by Teddy Fravel just four minutes into the game, but the Knights lost the lead as Union found some offense to come back and tie the game at 17-17 near the midway point of the half. However, the next possession, Fravel converted in the lane to begin another Golden Knights' run with 3-pointers from Garret Delaney and Matteo Sinon pushing the margin back to eight. That was only the initial spark, with the Green and Gold going on a run late in the period, extending a 10-point lead all the way to 17 at the break, with the biggest make coming on a four-point play from Frankie Rainville in the final minute.

The first possession of the second half saw the Knights move their lead all the way to 20, but Union slowly chipped away throughout the half. The gap narrowed to 10 on a layup-and-one from Edward Baptiste, and eventually the margin dropped to as few as seven points twice in the final four minutes, including a late 3-pointer from Mike Concannon that made the score 86-79. However, the Knights went 6-for-8 from the free throw line in the last 65 seconds to ice the game and claim a nine-point win.

Ryan Miles-Ferguson went 6-for-10 in the second half en route to 19 points, while Jack Dalgety scored 18 points on 6-for-9 shooting. Teddy Fravel scored 14 of his 16 points in the first half and also added eight boards, while Blake Gearhart had a solid all-around game with 11 points, 5 rebounds, and 7 assists.

For Union, four starters finished in double figures, including Mike Concannon, who tossed in 18 of his 20 points in the second half. Brian Noone chipped in 17 points, Aren Cummings scored 12, and Mike Manley tossed in 10 points for the Dutchmen.
