Knights Battle to Scoreless Tie at RIT

Rochester, NY – Sophomore goalkeeper Molly DiCaprio stopped nine shots as the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team completed its second scoreless tie of the season, a 0-0 Liberty League contest against RIT, on Saturday afternoon    

The Golden Knights picked up their first point in league games this year, moving to 5-3-2 overall and 0-2-1 in conference contests, while the Tigers moved to 5-2-2 and 0-2-1. Clarkson plays its final non-league game of the year on Tuesday when the team heads to Vermont to take on Middlebury College.

Maddie Lopol and Lillian Gillett each had shots on goal for the Knights in the first half, and DiCaprio made two stops against the Tigers just 30 seconds apart in a relatively quiet opening 45 minutes. However, RIT consistently challenged the Clarkson defense in the second half, getting a shot in the opening minute, and two more roughly 10 minutes apart. In the final 12-plus minutes, RIT pushed the tempo in an attempt to break the scoreless drought, but DiCaprio was up to task on three occasions to keep the game at 0-0.

RIT finished with a 20-8 lead in total shots and a 9-4 advantage in shots on goal. The margin was narrower on corner kicks, with the Tigers having three to the Knights' two. DiCaprio had nine saves, her second-highest total in 2022 thus far, and Darcie Jones made four stops for RIT.
