Knights Close Out Non-League Slate with 84-61 Win Over SUNY Canton

Potsdam, NY – Junior Teddy Fravel dropped in a season-high 22 points on 10-for-16 shooting as the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team picked up its third win in four games with an 84-61 victory against SUNY Canton on Monday evening at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights moved to 3-8 on the season and will be looking for their first conference win of the season this weekend when they host Rensselaer and Ithaca. SUNY Canton fell to 4-7 on the campaign.

The two teams traded baskets for much of the first eight minutes, but Canton finally got a bit of a foothold when Brennan Harmer hit a 3-pointer at the 11:13 mark to put the Kangaroos up by five (21-16). However, Garret Delaney sunk a pair of jumpers around a Frankie Rainville 3-pointer to quickly put Clarkson back on top. From there, each team posted solid runs to gain the lead, but it was Clarkson's that would end up being the true momentum shift. Canton went on a 10-3 run over the course of four minutes to regain its five-point advantage, but the Knights ended the half on a 16-3 run, capped off by a late steal from Blake Gearhart that gave Chris Hulbert an easy lay-in on the fast break.

The start of the second half was much like the first with the teams trading baskets, but near the midway point Clarkson put its foot on the accelerator and went on a 13-2 run in a stretch of five minutes, finished by a 3-pointer from Frankie Rainville, putting the Knights up by 22. Only for a brief moment did the margin fall below 20 for the remainder of the contest, as Clarkson cruised to the win.

Fravel had 22 points on 10-for-16 shooting and also blocked a pair of shots in the first half. Blake Gearhart was within a rebound of a double-double and produced a line of 12 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Garret Delaney also put in a solid effort with nine points and seven rebounds and Frankie Rainville chipped in nine points and five boards.

For SUNY Canton, Danny Santana was 4-for-7 from the field for a team-high 11 points and Andrew Fitch notched seven points and eight boards. Peyton Olsen was also productive in 20 minutes off the bench, contributing seven rebounds and five assists.
