Potsdam, NY – Senior Joe Lucas scored 16 of his team-best 19 in the first half for the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team, but the Golden Knights couldn't keep pace in the second half as Bryant & Stratton College scored 64 in the second half to gain a 107-97 win on Saturday at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights dropped to 1-2 on the season while the Bobcats moved to 6-3. Clarkson will take on SUNY Canton next Thursday.

Overcoming a slow start after turnovers on five of their first six possessions, the Golden Knights dropped in eight 3-pointers in the opening half against Bryant & Stratton, including a hot stretch from Joe Lucas midway through the first half that helped Clarkson recover from its slow start to gain an early advantage. Lucas made four first-half threes in quick succession, and had 16 points in the first half to help the Knights pour in 49 points in the opening 20 minutes. Although Clarkson led by as many as 13 in the first half, the Bobcats used a handful of 3-pointers at their own end to cut the margin to just three on two occasions late in the period, but a layup from Jason Phelps in the waning moments of the period allowed the Knights to go into the locker room leading by six.

Clarkson shot 18-for-32 overall in the first half, but the Knights were hampered by 10 turnovers, most of which came in the early going. Lucas had 16 points on 5-for-7 shooting and Jason Phelps added nine in the first half. The Bobcats shot 18-for-37 overall, including six 3-pointers. Three Bryant & Stratton players were in double figures in the first half, with Shyquinn Dix and Danny Turkvan leading the way with 13 apiece.

Opening the second half, the Bobcats quickly converted on their end to tie the game with some makes on the interior. Clarkson responded and kept the game tight for a small stretch, but another run from the Bobcats turned a one-point lead for Clarkson into an eight point lead for the visitors. Clarkson closed the gap and eventually came all the way back when Nick Budesheim converted on the break to make it 75-73. However, Davon Ware hit a pair of 3-pointers just a few minutes later to push the Bobcats' margin back to eight. The Knights rallied and pulled to within three on a couple of occasions, but free throws down the stretch allowed the Bobcats to walk out of the gym with a 107-97 win.

Five Clarkson players finished in double figures led by Lucas's 19 points. Phelps chipped in 18 points and Chris Hulbert had 17. Blake Gearhart also had 16 points and Dante Joefield tossed in 10 points to go along with six assists.

Bryant & Stratton shot 61.8% in the second half, going 21-for-34 from the floor, including six 3-pointers on 11 attempts. Danny Turkvan scored 23 points on 8-for-12 shooting while Eric Waters (22), Shyquinn Dix (20), and Davon Ware (14) each reached double figures as Bobcats' starters. Turkvan also recorded 12 rebounds and five assists.
