Eleven Goals in Second Half Lifts Knights to Victory Over Potsdam

Potsdam, NY – Six different players scored multiple goals for the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team on Tuesday night as the Golden Knights rolled to a 17-6 win over SUNY Potsdam at Hantz Turf Field.

The Golden Knights moved to 5-3 on the season and will head to Union this weekend in a return to Liberty League play. Potsdam fell to 2-4 on the year.

Although Clarkson scored in the first minute, it was the Bears that would edge out to a 2-1 lead in the first few minutes of the contest. However, Clarkson closed out the first quarter with goals from four different goal scorers in the final eight-plus minutes to take a 5-2 lead. After a quiet second quarter, the Knights maintained their three-goal advantage and hit the locker room with a 6-3 edge at the break.

Clarkson dominated the third quarter with a 17-8 advantage in shots, cashing in six times, including two goals from Peter Herrick with Bryan Penney assisting on both. Three more goals at the start of the fourth ended the hopes of any kind of Potsdam comeback as the Knights extended their advantage to 10 with nine minutes to play.

Clarkson finished the game with a 57-28 edge in shots (32-17 shots on goal) and won the faceoff battle with 20 wins in 27 tries. Riley Holzman went 16-for-23 in the middle, and Glen Pinkava won his four tries on faceoffs.

Herrick finished with a career-high five points on four goals and an assist and Marcus Lavarnway set a new collegiate-high with four goals, tying his career-best in points with four as well. Evan Burgett and Bryan Penney each scored twice and both added two assists while Conor Bartlett tacked on three points with two goals and one helper. Billy Bergan also scored twice for the Knights. Tyler King picked up two groundballs and caused two turnovers while Kevin Dyckman stopped 11 shots in the Clarkson crease.

For Potsdam, Zach Sheridan was busy making 14 saves in the Bears' crease while also leading the team with three groundballs. Haden Baker tied that output and also caused two turnovers. Josh Huiatt had three points with two goals and an assist and Sean Coe chipped in two goals.
