Knights Come From Behind to Down Olivet, 8-7

Winter Haven, FL – Thanks to three runs in the third and four more in the sixth, the Clarkson University Baseball team came from behind to claim an 8-7 victory over Olivet College on Saturday afternoon.

The Comets of Olivet scored three in the first inning when the first five batters reached base, with only one getting erased on a fielder's choice. Clarkson picked up one run in the bottom half of the inning with Tommy Bianchi tripling and coming around on a Mike Tito single, but the Comets scored two more in the top of the second to gain a 5-1 lead.

Clarkson clawed back to within one in the bottom of the third with three runs as Nolan Duda reached on an error to drive in Bianchi, Mike Krick singled home Vincent Granuzzo, and Duda came home on a sacrifice fly from Joe Stockman.

The Knights took the lead in the bottom of the sixth with run-scoring doubles from Brad Pearson and Tito, and Duda delivered a bases loaded single to score a pair and give Clarkson an 8-5 lead.

Mark Connor, who struck out six in 6.1 innings of work, was relieved by Jake Scurrah in the seventh and the freshman worked out of a bases loaded jam with two groundouts, but the Comets pulled to within one with two runs in the frame. Scurrah again escaped bases loaded situations in both the eighth and ninth innings thanks to well-timed groundballs.

Connor picked up the win and Scurrah a hard-earned save for the Knights. Bianchi went 3-for-5 with three runs scored, Pearson, Tito and Granuzzo each added two hits, and Duda drove in three runs for Clarkson.
