Knights Fall 2-1 to Farmingdale State

Auburndale, FL – It has been hot and cold for the Clarkson University Baseball team's offense so far in Florida and the Golden Knights scored just once on Sunday in a 2-1 loss to Farmingdale State at the Lake Myrtle Complex.

Clarkson dropped to 2-4 on the season (2-2 in Florida) while the Rams moved to 5-2. The Green and Gold will take a day off on Monday but it will be back in action against McDaniel College on Tuesday.

The Golden Knights scored a run in the first inning of Sunday's game with the first three hitters reaching base. Nolan Duda reached on an error, Caleb Doyle followed with a single and Tommy Bianchi loaded the bases when he drew a walk. Mike Tito then drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, but Clarkson was unable to capitalize further.

The Rams picked up a run in the bottom of the second to tie the game 1-1. Brian Perez produced a two-out double and advanced to third on a single by Tyler Schrimpf. A stolen base and an error allowed Perez to score shortly after Schrimpf's hit.

Farmingdale State took the lead for good in the bottom of the third, again with a two-out rally. Vincent Rice tripled home Jimmy Mattera making the score 2-1.

Clarkson threatened with runners in scoring position in the fourth, fifth, seventh and eighth innings, including runners on third in three of those frames, but none was able to complete the circuit.

Freshman Ben Shpur pitched well in his collegiate debut, striking out four with only four hits and a walk allowed in five innings of work. Nate Burns also performed well in relief, allowing two hits and a walk with two strikeouts in three innings of work.
