On Sunday, the fifth-ranked Clarkson University Women's Hockey team will take on fourth-ranked Quinnipiac in the ECAC Championship. The winner will earn their first ever ECAC Tournament Championship trophy.

Clarkson will appear in the championship game for the third time in program history. In 2010, the Golden Knights fell to host Cornell in an overtime 4-3 game. The Green and Gold also lost to Cornell in the 2014 final, with the Big Red winning 1-0. However, that same year,  Clarkson went on to win the National Championship in High Point Solutions Arena, the same rink that Sunday's final will take place in.

High Point Solutions Arena is hosting the championship because the Quinnipiac Bobcats earned their first ECAC Hockey Regular Season title in 2016. The Bobcats had reached the semifinals in four of the last five years, but their 2-1 win over St. Lawrence on Saturday sent them to the championship game for the first time.

Clarkson advanced to the final with a 5-2 win over Colgate. Senior captain Shannon MacAulay led the way with a pair of power-play goals, helping to extend Clarkson's unbeaten streak to 18 games, tied for the second longest active streak in the country. Clarkson has a 0-1-1 record against Quinnipiac this season. The Bobcats won the first meeting 3-0 in Cheel Arena with the two teams skating to a 2-2 tie in High Point Solutions Arena.

The championship game will start at 2:04 pm on Sunday afternoon. After the game, the Golden Knights will wait for the 9pm selection show on Sunday night to see their positioning in the NCAA Tournament. The selection show can be viewed here.
